This year, Mercantile Claims were the proud Gold Sponsor of the Scotty’s Little Soldiers ball. The event took place on 28th October and was held in a luxurious hotel based in Daventry. The charity’s aim is to raise funds to help bereaved children. Scotty’s Little Soldiers was created by a wonderful woman called Nikki Scott, who herself suffered a devastating bereavement.

After losing her husband, a loyal soldier and loving father to their son Kai and her daughter Brooke, she saw the effect that this had on her children. Nikki decided to take her children on a family holiday and, after seeing her son laughing and smiling for the first time during this sad period, she wanted to see how she could help other children regain their smile.

Nikki has worked tirelessly to set up the charity, to help as many bereaved children/young adults as she possible can.

The charity’s assistance is divided into 3 distinct programmes:

‘Smiles’ offers the children the opportunity to smile again, through a wide range of fun activities and gifts.  This includes holiday breaks, group events, special experiences and gifts, which are provided at challenging times of the year;

The ‘Support’ programme aims to assist with the more emotional side of bereavement and includes access to professional counselling and a family support network; and,

Finally, the ‘Strides’ programme is designed to help with the charity’s beneficiaries’ personal development and includes a range of activity and educational grants.

With support, the charity can continue to do the wonderful things that they are currently doing. It was our honour to have been in a room filled with such amazing people: serving soldiers, willing to devote their time to help raise money, bereaved parents, who only want their own and other people’s children to smile, and the Scotty’s Team, who work tirelessly to ensure that as many children as possible receive help.

We want to thank Scotty’s Little Soldiers for this amazing opportunity and to thank them for the tremendous work that they do.
